MY BACKGROUND
My name is Sarah King and I am from Cedar Rapids, IA. I started playing the alto saxophone in 5th grade. While I continued to be in band throughout middle and high school, it wasn't until the middle of my high school career that I became serious about music. It was during my junior year that my band director said to me, "Sarah, I need you to learn clarinet for a piece in jazz band this year." This took me by surprise, as I had never touched another instrument before! Despite this, I took up the daunting task of learning a brand new instrument and I quickly fell in love with it, and the rest is history.
I graduated from Drake University with honors, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Clarinet Performance. I currently own a private teaching studio in Cedar Rapids where I teach woodwind lessons daily. In addition to teaching, I actively perform in cities all over Iowa including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Grinnell, Ottumwa, and Des Moines. I have played with the Cedar Rapids Community Orchestra, chamber ensembles, colleges and universities, churches, restaurants, country clubs, and the pit orchestra for musicals including Nice Work If You Can Get It, Pippin, The Color Purple, Titanic, Hello, Dolly!, and Cinderella.
